Jeffrey P. Callen, MD
  Jeffrey P. Callen, MD was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1947. He graduated from Evanston Township High School in 1965, and went college at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. In 1968 he entered medical school at the University of Michigan. Following graduation from medical school he began a residency in internal medicine, followed by a residency in dermatology, both at the University of Michigan Affiliated Hospitals leading to certification by the American Board of Internal Medicine (1975) and the American Board of Dermatology (1977).

In 1977 after completing the dermatology residency, Dr. Callen joined the faculty at the University of Louisville, attaining the rank of Professor in 1988 and being appointed as Chief of the Division of Dermatology in that same year.

He has been elected to the following organizations – Fellow, American College of Physicians (1978), American Dermatological Association (1986), Noah Worcester Dermatological Society (1987), Honorary member, Pacific Dermatological Association (1988), Alpha Omega Alpha (1993), Dermatology Residency Review Committee (2001) and the American Board of Dermatology (2003). He is listed in Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in the World, Who’s Who in Frontiers of Science, Who’s Who in American Education, and Best Doctors in America.

He has served on the Board of Directors of the Dermatology Foundation (1983-8), the American Academy of Dermatology (1994-8), Association of Professors of Dermatology (1996-9), Dermatology Services Inc, (1998 – 2004) and the American Board of Dermatology, Inc. (2003- ). He has been President of the Kentucky Dermatology Society, the Chair of the Dermatology Section of the Southern Medical Association, and President of Dermatology Services, Inc. He has chaired the Scientific Assembly Council for the American Academy of Dermatology and is the current Chair of the Council on Education of the American Academy of Dermatology. He is the current Vice-president of the American Academy of Dermatology.

Locally, he has served on the boards of the Jewish Community Center, Jewish Family and Vocational Services, Actors Theatre of Louisville, the Kentucky Arts and Crafts Foundation, and the Speed Art Museum.

He is the author or co-author of 69 original articles, 122 case reports, 117 review articles, 18 editorials, 10 books, 110 book chapters, and 88 abstracts. He served as an Assistant editor of the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology (1993-2003), and is a member of the editorial boards of the Journal of Rheumatology, Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, Oral Radiology and Endodontics, eMedicine, Best Practice of Medicine, Journal of Cutaneous Medicine and Surgery, Journal Watch Dermatology, and the Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology. He has been the editor in Chief of Advances in Dermatology (1986-1996) and the Editor in Chief of Current Problems in Dermatology (1996-2003). He is the current Associate Editor of the Archives of Dermatology. He has been a visiting professor at 135 Universities, been a guest lecturer at 119 medical society meetings, and has delivered 6 named lectures.
